I'm blaming lack of sleep for that particular blunder
I've found the main challenge with medieval building creation is introducing the right amount of (but not too much) "error" into them. Before the days of formalised building techniques, things were a bit all over the place - and it's essential to incorporate this to have buildings look at all real/period appropriate.
To that end I had tried modelling the building with individual "beams" of wall as well as the beams of wood. However this resulted (naturally) in the texture being applied to each piece, rather than to the wall as a whole. But now as whole pieces again things are looking much better. (except some of the beams of wood are probably sticking out a bit far...)
I will make some variations (with beams arranged differently and with varied wall and roof textures). Can you think of any other good ideas for adding some variation (but again, without adding too much)?
Much better... Don't think it matters when some beams of wood are sticking out too far. It add's to the realism (don't think medieval builders were that precise)
