This is an attempt at the facade of a medium wealth urban residential, based on a photo provided by Sim.

(this is the original)

The chimney isn't textured yet, just the walls and the shutters.

What do you think? It's hard to know how to texture it accurately, any recommendations? (particularly the roof, being out of shot as it is. Also, what would the back wall be like?)

It looks great... maybe you should add some stuff inside? (table, chairs etc)

that's true, being used to glass I've never had to do so before. It will give buildings extra character having to pay more attention to the insides.

Well I've ended up doing both, which lends some variety. Also, as is clearly obvious, I am trying out a stone texture instead.

the other texture looks better to my opinion... The stone-texture looks older (more medieval) but I like the brown more...

Very nice!

I like the idea about the furniture, it really adds that little extra to it.
As for the stones, maybe you should keep both versions. Red brick was very popular up north and east in Europe, whilst Stone is very common for England and the Mediterranean.

no worries Sim, will do. It's good to make contact again. smile.gif

What about the stonework, and brickwork themselves - are they appropriate looking for medium wealth?

and thanks Alex, I will keep the brick version as well.

Here's an attempt at a low wealth residential, based on some photos I posted earlier.

How could this be made more realistic? Unfortunately little will be seen in the SC4 view..
I will make varying versions of each model. Is thatch the only appropriate roof material for a LW building of this nature? What about the walls?

Also what should the door be like?

In Belgium we have an educational themepark called "Bokrijk" were they rebuild towns from the past...
This is a building from the medieval times:

The walls need more wood (as the frame) and chimney on the roof

thanks Alex, that's a great building that will certainly be being made. (I'll look up more photos from the park as well) However it is considerably larger than the type of building I am trying to recreate at the moment.
it doesn't seem to have a chimney...?
