Hi guys,

I'm new to this forum but I've been batting for about a year on "simtropolis.com"

This is a project I'm currently working on: the Belfry of Ghent (early 14th century)

I'll try to update this forum as I make some progress. Comments are welcome

Very cool Alex and welcome to SM! bigtup.gif

I now know what a belfry is wink.gif

It looks fantastic and will be a useful addition to the arsenal.

Welcome to the Project!

The Belfry turned out very nice.
And there aren't many better cities to start work on than Ghent.

@Simarillion: that's true... Ghent is full of medieval buildings. Perhaps Bruges could have more? But their is a rivalry between Ghent and Bruges for having the most authentic medieval city. So as an inhabitant of Ghent, I'm not going to BAT buildings from Bruges :p

biggrin
That means you won't get offended when I'll ask for the Groote Markt in Brussels?

(Ik heb in Brussel gewoond voor 2 1 / 2 jaar, dat betekent dat ik ben geen grote fan van Brugge.) smile

I can live with Brussels... ;)
I was born in Leuven and my wife is from Antwerp... so I'm not really taking part in that chauvinism :p

Here is an update of the Belfry (with the Lakenhalle):

I know that the roof and front-wall still needs a lot of work.

ok, well I would separate the belfry from the Lakenhalle if I were you. It will reduce the time necessary for preview renders a lot. You will also need to export them separately to allow for greater flexibility in lotting (without adding unnecessarily complex LODs to the game).

I gather they aren't at the same scale yet?

For simtropolis I'll lot them as one BAT (as in real life)...
For the medieval version I'll separate them but I'm afraid the Lakenhalle won't look so good without the belfry behind it.

The previews aren't that long (about one or two minutes for a medium render) so that's no problem just yet...

They are scaled as in real life:

0001392ae.jpg From this angle you can see the yellow windows at the belfry. So that should be OK...

The scale does seem indeed accurate.

The Lakenhalle on it's own would look out of place just on it's own, but could still be combined very nicely in other settings.
