No sweat, after all it was you that gave me the idea.
So what's involved?
Not much, only choosing the domain and coughing up the cash.
Who's hosting it?
So far, nobody. I only registered the domain to avoid somebody else doing it. Once we are ready to move or build we can decide to leave it on 1and1 or move it to somewhere else.
How much does it cost?
Your idea of a .com for us gave me another idea, so I registered five domains in one go. Initial cost was $39.99.

ok, I don't understand much of how this works so bear with me. So for now it's registered as opposed to active, how long will it stay registered for? When I looked at the costs of turning the current forum into a dot com I noticed there was a range of prices depending on how much traffic was expected. How will it work with the type of service you have in mind? I'm not 100% clear looking at the 1and1 site which option(s) is/are the best. Are there extra costs dependant on traffic volume? What sort of numbers are required to make enough money from advertising to pay for some/all of the site? (I'm not expecting you just to answer all this, but these are my initial queries).
What's your other idea?

I hope you don't expect me to understand much of it .

It's registered, that means nobody else will be able to put up a site under that address. It's not 'active' since there isn't a site under that name yet. It will stay registered for as long as somebody pays for it.

Those are some of the things I still need to check out myself. But I suspect that, yes, there are differences in price.

I haven't got a clue and, so far, that's the last of my concerns.
(I'm not expecting you just to answer all this, but these are my initial queries).
Lucky me .

on a non SM related note, I have been working with a new guy, Rayner, who is Team Downunder's newest member from the Phillipines (of all places . He has quickly made a set of textures for another small project (compared to SM), the O-Bahn. It will be a High Speed Bus addon for the game, based upon the real one here in Adelaide. I am in turn making the automata model.
This has been excellent because it's a whole new area of creation that I can now start utilising for SM as well (and there's going to need to be a lot of new automata for the game. Plus hopefully Rayner will be interested down the track at making some of the road and otherwise textures that we need. SM is a huge undertaking and we'll need help from various quarters to pull it off.
But today I am caught up with real work so I better get back to it.
Very nice! I read about the O-Bahn in the thread when it was first requested, never thought somebody would actually make it. And it surely will come in handy for us to know how to do automata (and have TD's and the Asian guys) support.
I'm off to work in an hours time. Got to go to Lugano today to meet a new supplier for chirurgical Lasers (of which I don't know anything...), so it's gonna be fun.
well apparently (in english at least), chirurgical is an archaic term that's no longer in technical use. So how much does he want for his archaic lasers...? it'd wanna be cheap Is it a term still in use in Italian?
And I never had any doubt about the O-Bahn, as I don't about SM - I see both as just a matter of time (and finding the right people).
There are some amazing open air museums in europe. These are massively handy for SM because lots of people have been to them taking photos and their images can easily be found via flickr etc. I have come across another excellent example, the Weald & Downland Open Air Museum in Susex, England. And rather than being recreations, these are all genuine buildings that have been donated and relocated there. Although not exclusively medieval stuff, there's still plenty that is.
I assume you're referring to the first photo, in which case I don't know anything about it's origins. But the second, the one I'm making, is from 1321.
